The brief's key findings are: (1) Highlights of the 2011 Trustees Report: (1a) Social Security's deficit is still about 2 percent of payroll. (1b) Deficit as a percent of GDP is less than 1 percent. (1c) Trust fund exhaustion moved up one year to 2036. (2) Items of note: (2a) COLA is expected to be back after a two-year hiatus. (2b) Disability Insurance Trust Fund exhausts its assets in 2018. (2c) Future of the employee payroll tax cut is uncertain.
